PM says govt. not rescinding youth employment incentives

Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said on Thursday that the government was not rescinding youth employment incentives from the active employment policy but that the funds for that would be drawn from the European youth employment programme called the Youth Guarantee.
 

Speaking at the beginning of a government session, Milanovic refuted some media's claims that the government was rescinding those incentives for lack of money, and called on the media to truthfully report about this.

"I'm calling on everyone to do their job honestly, both those who work and those who report...

We aren't rescinding anything, that's incorrect information. If it was correct, somebody would have noticed it during the budget revision ten days ago."

Milanovic said the government was criticised two years ago when it introduced internship for HRK 1,600 a month. "They mocked us that we were undermining the cost of labour, yet data shows that nearly 60 per cent of those who were employed through such state incentives eventually found jobs."

He confirmed Mrsic's statement that Croatia was waiting for the money from the Youth Guarantee, which he said would arrive this year.

"Those who are in the employment programme through this measure will remain in the programme," he said, once again regretting the incorrect reporting.
