Croatian President Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic in the Istrian town of Pazin on Friday attended a session of the Istria County Assembly, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism.

The president and the prime minister laid wreaths and lit candles at the Central Monument in the Park of the People's Uprising in Pazin. Wreaths were also laid by local delegations.

The president of the Istrian Anti-Fascist Alliance, Tomislav Ravnic, told reporters before the session that anti-fascism was a permanent orientation of the people of Istria and expressed satisfaction that the president and the prime minister accepted the invitation to attend the session.

"This is a historic date for the human civilisation and it is not by accident that the united Europe marks 9 May also as Europe Day," he added.
