Prime Minister Kosor meets European regional policy commissioner

ZAGREB, Jan 25 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Monday met European Regional Policy Commissioner Pawel Samecki, informing him that the three pillars of her government's work this year were completing European Union accession negotiations, strengthening the economy and fighting corruption.

Kosor voiced confidence Croatia would soon become the EU's 28th member.

Samecki said the European Commission supported Croatia in the completion of the EU entry talks.

Kosor said the areas being financed from EU funds were very important for Croatia's development, including transport, environmental protection, regional competitiveness, small and medium-sized enterprise, schools, hospitals, cultural institutions, and the business infrastructure.

Samecki explained the benefits of EU membership, including the cohesion policy and use of EU funds.

Croatia wrapped up 2009 with more than half the negotiation chapters closed. Twenty-eight are open and 17 provisionally closed.
