Prime Minister meets UniCredit Group CEO

ZAGREB, Sept 2 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Thursday met with the chairman of the UniCredit Group Management Board, Alessandro Profumo.

The two officials expressed satisfaction with overall relations between Croatia and Italy.

Kosor informed the banking executive about the government's activities designed to bring about economic recovery.

The main topic of the meeting was the launching of new investments in Croatia, with Kosor and Profumo agreeing that investments were crucial to efforts to improve the economic situation.

Profumo said that Italian banks operating in Croatia were very successful, noting that the success of the banking business would depend on how successful the country would be.

Kosor also talked about the current, final stage of Croatia's negotiations with the EU.

She said that completing the talks by the end of 2010 remained a goal so that the country could sign an accession treaty next spring. The reforms Croatia is undertaking will make it possible to achieve EU standards and adjust to market conditions in the EU sooner, she said.
