Awards in ten categories were presented by the Financial Agency (FINA) at a ceremony in Zagreb on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said that without private entrepreneurs Croatia would not be moving forward, and that the government had done what it could. He noted that the previous development model was based on infrastructure and housing construction, household borrowing and consumption, which led to an increase in public debt and household indebtedness. He also said that the present crisis "has brought out the best" from those eager to move forward.

The Golden Balance Sheet Award ranks companies according to 11 financial indicators in five categories, including profitability, liquidity, indebtedness, activity and cost-effectiveness. A total of 104,470 enterprises subject to profit tax, excluding banks and insurance companies, were included in the selection process.
