Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic said in Split on Wednesday that he did not believe that parliament would be dissolved for elections at its extraordinary session, scheduled for September 8.

"I'm not the speaker of parliament, I'm the leader of one of the parties that constitute a majority in parliament, and I don't believe in the possibility of parliament being dissolved at its extraordinary session. That's my opinion," Milanovic said in response to questions from the press following media speculations that parliament might be dissolved for elections at its extraordinary session next week.

"Parliament has been convened on our initiative to work on our bills," he added, stressing that parliamentary elections were called by the president of the republic and not the government.

"Parliament is dissolved if its term does not expire earlier, and the term of the present parliament expires on December 22 or 23. After parliament is dissolved, the president of the republic calls elections for parliament within the time limit laid down by the law and the constitution," the prime minister said.
