Prime Minister Oreškovic confident EU will reach agreement with Britain

Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic said on Friday, regarding the European Union's negotiations with Great Britain on redefining its relations with the EU, that European leaders understood the challenge PM David Cameron was faced with because half of Britons wish to stay in the EU and half want out.

We understand the importance of finding a solution that will satisfy Cameron and at the same time remain within the broader framework of the European treaties, Oreskovic told the BBC on the fringes of an EU summit in Brussels dedicated to the migrant crisis and the negotiations with Great Britain.

Prime Minister Oreskovic said he could say on behalf of all the members of the European Council that they were willing to stay at the summit until such a solution was found.

Asked if he was frustrated to have to discuss this topic when Croatia had bigger problems, such as the migrant crisis, he answered in the negative and said that everyone understood the challenges Great Britain was faced with, the social and political pressure.

It's important that we find a solution because the consequences aren't positive either for Great Britain and its citizens or the wider European Union, he said, adding that he was confident that an agreement would be reached with Great Britain because he was an optimist.
