Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic met with Albanian President Bujar Nishani in Zagreb on Tuesday, expressing support for Albania's EU membership bid.

PM Oreskovic praised the good and friendly relations between the two countries and connections between the two peoples, thanking members of the Albanian minority in Croatia for their contribution to the war effort in the 1990s.

PM Oreskovic said that Croatia and Albania had developed a reliable partnership in different regional initiatives and NATO and shared a commitment to spreading European values. He said that the Croatian government was ready to provide full support and assistance to Albania on its path to EU membership, adding that Albania had made good progress in that regard.

PM Oreskovic said he was confident that increasing regional and international security by strengthening cooperation within NATO would lead to progress and better cooperation in all other areas.
Nishani said he regarded this visit as one of his most important foreign visits. He thanked Croatia and its people for the support, partnership and assistance over the last 25 years, stressing that in Albania Croatia would have a reliable partner and a close friend in the region, Europe and internationally.

For Albania, there is only one way to sustainable peace and stability in the region and good neighbourly relations and that is joining the European family of nations. In that regard, Albania has a responsibility to meet all the expectations and will use Croatia's experience in the process, Nishani said.

PM Oreskovic and Nishani were agreed that there was great potential for developing economic cooperation and expressed their readiness to support companies in their respective countries in establishing cooperation in energy, infrastructure, tourism and agriculture, saying that considerable progress could be made in those areas.

Prime Minister Oreskovic and Nishani said they were confident that closer cooperation between the countries in the neighbourhood would lead to progress and prosperity for all the people in the region.
