Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic met in Zagreb on Monday with the new World Bank regional director for the European Union, Arup Banerji.

The meeting also involved the Minister of Finance, Zdravko Maric, the head of the World Bank Office for Croatia and Slovenia, Carlo Pinerua, and the regional manager of the International Financial Corporation, Thomas Lubeck.

Oreskovic spoke of his government's key priorities, including fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, change of the business climate and support for small and medium enterprises.

"The World Bank recognises the Croatian government's efforts to address the priorities which Prime Minister Oreskovic has spoken about, continues to support the government's efforts towards stronger growth, and is ready to help Croatia maximise the benefits of its European Union membership," the statement said.

The World Bank's new regional director, Arup Banerji, who was appointed in January, met separately with Minister Zdravko Maric before the talks with the prime minister.
