Prime Minister receives Russian Constitutional Court president

ZAGREB, July 2 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor on Friday held talks with representatives of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation led by Chairman Valery Zorkin who used this opportunity to relay Russian President Vladimir Putin's regards.

"Prime Minister Kosor has expressed satisfaction with excellent relations between Croatia and the Russian Federation, which have been confirmed during her recent visit to Moscow and talks with Putin. The Croatian government is satisfied with the talks in Moscow, which focused on the strengthening of economic cooperation, notably in the energy sector."

At today's meeting with the Russian Constitutional Court delegation, Kosor talked about the present situation in the country, Croatia's EU entry talks, the fight against economic crisis and corruption.

Kosor said a lot has been done in the EU entry talks and the adjustment to the EU acquis communautaire. The PM underlined the importance of the regulation stipulating that there is no statute of limitations on crimes committed during privatisation processes.

Kosor also informed her guest of the new model of the appointment of Constitutional Court judges.

Zorkin said the two countries' Constitutional Courts had built friendly relations. He added that the executive authorities in both Russia and Croatia respected the role of the Constitutional Court and in that context he thanked PM Kosor for realising the importance of the independent judiciary.

Kosor and Zorkin agreed that the two courts represented a bridge that led to the strengthening of relations between Croatia and the Russian Federation.
