Pusic: Croatian companies ready to work in Iraq

Croatian energy, construction and pharmaceutical companies are ready to work in Iraq, Croatian Foreign Minister Vesna Pusic said during a meeting with her Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim al-Jaafari in Baghdad on Sunday.

Pusic cited four main areas of cooperation with Iraq -- the defence complex, economy, development aid and helping to change Iraq's image in international relations, the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs said in a press release.

Croatian food, energy, construction, IT and pharmaceutical companies are ready to work in Iraq, and some of them have shown an interest in already advertised tenders in Iraq, Pusic said.

Al-Jaafari said that his country was still largely focused on terrorism.

Today we face a global terrorist threat and we welcome efforts by countries involved in the global coalition fighting against Islamic State, as well as efforts by countries that are not formally involved, but are helping Iraq, he said.

Croatia and Iraq have a lot of topics of common interest and I hope that we will cooperate successfully, the Iraqi minister said.

Pusic, who is visiting Iraq from May 2 to 5, is also scheduled to meet with Iraqi Defence Minister Khaled al-Obeidi on Sunday.
