Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenković said on Tuesday that no one could know how many refugees could arrive from Afghanistan.

Commenting on the recent developments, Plenković said that Croatia's government in cooperation with its allies and partners had managed to pull Croatian citizens from that Asian country.

Croatia and all the international protagonists would like to see the stabilisation of the situation in Afghanistan and the prevention of the recurrence of a migrant wave such was in 2015, Plenković said admitting that a new migrant tide could destabilise Europe.

"This is something nobody wants to happen. There is no longer a policy 'we will attend to it'. Simply, it is not something likely to happen. There is no uniform position of (EU) member-states," he added.

However, assistance should be provided to the vulnerable groups: women, children and professionals whose work has been visible and exposed in the public, the Croatian premier told the press after the HDZ leadership's meeting.
