The European path of the countries of Southeast Europe has no alternative
"The key topic was the cooperation of the countries of Southeast Europe, their European perspective, better economic convergence and the support of the European Commission with a package worth 2.1 billion euros for various projects," said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković after the Berlin Process summit held in Tirana.
He added that they also discussed good neighbourly relations as well as open issues from the aspect of security, economy and strengthening of political stability in this area. The Berlin Process is a political and diplomatic initiative launched in 2014 with the aim of supporting the reform efforts of the countries of Southeast Europe on their European journey.
It was established as a platform for high-level cooperation between the six countries of the Western Balkans and several member states of the European Union (Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, and Great Britain as former members).
It also includes European Union institutions, international financial institutions, regional civil society, and representatives of young people and entrepreneurs from Southeast Europe.
Prime Minister Plenković assessed today's meeting as successful, the discussions were very useful and constructive, and Albanian Prime Minister Rama was a very good host, he said.
Plenković believes that the European future of the countries of the Western Balkans is good. "It is the only possible route for the countries of South-East Europe", he said pointing out that the principle of individual merit should be adhered to, which means that all countries must undergo negotiations and adjustment.
