The priorities of the Croatian EU presidency are also the priorities of the European Union, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said at the start of a meeting between the Croatian government and the European Commission in Zagreb on Friday.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen opened the meeting in the National and University Library.

Von der Leyen said that the success of the Croatian presidency would also define the start of the term of the new Commission.

The first Croatian presidency is a key moment, and it is also the start of our term. Your success will define our success, von der Leyen said at the start of the meeting of the EU College of Commissioners and Croatian government ministers, which formally marked the beginning of the Croatian presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2020.

I have listened closely to your priorities and I can say that your priorities are ours as well, the Commission president said.

Plenkovic presented the four priority areas of the Croatian presidency: a Europe that develops, a Europe that connects, a Europe that protects and an influential Europe. He stressed that the European Commission would have a reliable partner in the Croatian Government.
