Prime Minister Andrej Plenković on Wednesday called on citizens to get vaccinated against COVID-19 and commented on the vaccination slowdown as the number of adults that have been vaccinated in Croatia in the past week has gone up by a mere 1%.

"The vaccination pace should be better, especially when it comes to receiving the first dose. We are asking everyone to get vaccinated, now is the time to get vaccinated, now we need to acquire immunity before the autumn," the prime minister said in his opening speech at a government session.

He explained that now was the ideal moment to get vaccinated given the tourist season and new coronavirus variants. He called on citizens to take advantage of the fact that Croatia has so many doses of vaccine at its disposal, so everyone who wants to get vaccinated can do so today.

Plenković also noted that the epidemiological situation continued to improve. "Over the past seven days, there have been a total of 479 infections, which is 3.4% of the weekly figure that we registered in mid-April," he pointed out.

On behalf of the government, the prime minister congratulated the Croatian national football team, which last night beat Scotland 3-1.
