PM, minister present education, science and technology strategy

Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and Minister of Science, Education and Sports Zeljko Jovanovic on Monday announced a new education, science and technology strategy that should come into force in 2018 and which, as they said, would be founded on the idea of creating a society of equal opportunities based on know-how, where education and science are development priorities not only for Croatian society on the whole, but for each individual that lives in it.

The fundamental idea behind the strategy is the existence of a triangle of knowledge which consists of life-long learning, science and innovations. This comprehends a flexible system and its adaptability, the government's adviser for science, Neven Budak, said presenting the strategy.

PM Milanovic underscored that the strategy was of national interest which required political consensus. He explained that Croatia had a relatively low number of highly educated adult citizens, which needs to change.

Minister Jovanovic stressed that the strategy presented today was a working draft and called on everyone to become actively involved in a two-month public debate.

He expects that the strategy will be adopted in parliament in February 2014, paving the way for legislative amendments and for a working group to be formed to prepare a national curriculum framework.

Plenković and Merz: In uncertain global circumstances, we are strengthening the partnership between Croatia and Germany

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met today in Berlin with the Federal Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, with whom he discussed bilateral relations, strengthening economic cooperation and the procurement of 44 Leopard tanks, the most modern tanks available on the market. They also discussed key topics for the future of the European Union in view of the meeting of the European Council, finding a solution for further financial support to Ukraine, as well as international efforts to achieve a lasting and just peace in that country.

Economic forum is a strong contribution to the further strengthening of Croatian-German relations

During the visit of Prime Minister Andrej Plenković to Germany, the Croatian-German Economic Forum was held, with the aim of further strengthening relations between Croatia and its most important foreign trade partner, with the participation of around forty Croatian companies. At the opening of the Forum, Prime Minister Plenković presented the most important Croatian economic indicators and achievements to German businessmen and invited them to invest in Croatia. He expressed his hope that today's Forum would contribute to strengthening existing and creating new partnerships, emphasizing that the Government would be available to everyone in this context and provide assistance within its powers.

Plenković and Macron: We continue to strengthen the Croatian-French partnership, European resilience and competitiveness

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met tonight, in the Elysee Palace, with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, at whose invitation he is on a two-day official visit to Paris. After the meeting, the Action Plan for the implementation of the Croatian-French Strategic Partnership, the Contract for the procurement of Caesar self-propelled howitzers and the Letter of Intent on the procurement of improved Rafale aircraft capabilities were signed. "We continue to strengthen the Croatian-French partnership. The goal of these activities is also complementarity with strengthening European resilience and competitiveness, as well as preserving the common values on which the European Union rests," it was said after the meeting.

Prime Minister Andrej Plenković today gave a lecture at the French Institute for International Relations entitled "Europe at the Crossroads: Asserting Sovereignty in a Changing World". He said that the international order is undergoing a profound transformation, European security is at risk, and some of the foundations of transatlantic relations have been undermined. "We can no longer take for granted the institutional, energy or demographic stability of our societies, and investments in defense are a priority for the European continent", the Prime Minister stressed. Speaking about the war in Ukraine, he stressed perseverance in efforts to achieve a just and sustainable peace that respects Ukrainian sovereignty, territorial integrity and will provide Ukraine with lasting security guarantees.
