PRIME MINISTER PLENKOVIĆ ON TRANSATLANTIC RELATIONS
Solidarity with Denmark and a reasonable solution through dialogue with the US
In a statement to the media, Prime Minister Andrej Plenković reflected on his impressions after the first working day of the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos.

The panel in which he participated on the topic "Redefining Europe's place in the world" has considered the role of Europe in the circumstances of double pressures. On the one hand the consequences of Russian aggression on Ukraine, and on the other the initiatives related to Greenland, which concern Denmark, and therefore allies in NATO and members of the European Union.
"We have to position ourselves and try to lead a reasonable policy towards the United States of America, our transatlantic partner and ally, the backbone of NATO", he said and added that it is important that dialogue replace sometimes a few words more that bring more problems than solutions.
Croatia's position is clear, he added, and that is solidarity with Denmark and a reasonable solution through dialogue with the United States of America.
The initiative to reach a peace agreement on Ukraine included all key and large countries of the European Union that were in constant dialogue either personally with President Trump or with his team, said Prime Minister Plenković.
"No one can say that there are no communication channels between Washington and the European Union. I think we need to strengthen that, and at the same time, in the changed circumstances, strengthen the European Union in terms of security, economy and energy," he said, adding that the only topic at the European Council on Thursday will be the relationship between the European Union and the United States.
Croatia supports all peace initiatives, but international treaties require procedures and consultations
Asked what he expects from President Trump's speech at the World Economic Forum tomorrow, the Prime Minister said it was difficult for him to anticipate what the content of that address would be.
"It is important that he is here, it is good for him to send certain messages, to directly feel what his priorities really are and how he intends to solve them," the Prime Minister believes.
He also expects President Trump to clarify his Peace Committee initiative, which initially referred to the implementation of peace and the revitalization of the Gaza Strip, and now it seems that it is a much broader scope of action that requires longer time for analysis and possible decisions and consultations. He considers it important that the European Union is united around this initiative.
Croatia is in principle ready to support all initiatives that lead to peace, but anything that could be a kind of international agreement requires a certain procedure and consultations.
Bilateral meetings
During the day, the Prime Minister also held a number of bilateral meetings, including with John Martinis, an American scientist of Croatian origin, winner of the 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics, Director of Quantum Basel Coorp Damir Bogdan, and Croatian neuroscientist from Harvard Medical School Alen Juginović.
He also met with the newly elected Prime Minister of Moldova Alexandru Munteanu, with whom he discussed the continued improvement of bilateral relations.
"We strongly support Moldova's European path, and in the circumstances of Russian aggression against Ukraine, we consider cooperation in strengthening energy security and combating hybrid threats to be particularly important," he said after the meeting on the X platform.
He congratulated the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, on his re-election, highlighting after the meeting the continuation of high-quality cooperation on numerous bilateral issues, with an emphasis on strengthening economic cooperation and investments.
Prime Ministers Plenković and Babiš also discussed the global security situation and the transatlantic partnership between the European Union and the United
