Croatia to chair International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in 2023, 2024

Croatia will preside over International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) in 2023 and 2024, so the government has established a National Coordination Body for the presidency over IHRA, the Plenković cabinet said in a press release on Friday.

The IHRA was established in 1998 to strengthen and promote Holocaust education, remembrance and research. It consists of 35 member states and 10 observer states, and Croatia joined the Alliance in 2005.

Ahead of the Croatian presidency of the IHRA, and contemporary challenges in opposing the distortion of the truth about the Holocaust and the suppression of anti-Semitism and anti-Roma racism, the government has established a National Coordination Body of the IHRA Presidency and the Secretariat of the IHRA Presidency, the government said in a press release.

During its session on Friday, the Croatian government adopted the legally non-binding working definition of anti-Semitism, the definition of Holocaust denial and distortion, and the definition of anti-Romani racism and discrimination of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA).
