Gov't to set up state committee to organise "Storm" celebration

The Croatian government will at its session on Thursday adopt a decision on establishing a State Committee for organising the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm, so as to ensure appropriate and dignified observance of the anniversary of this important military and police operation that liberated central and southern Croatia.

The government issued a statement on Tuesday saying that President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic had also proposed the forming of the State Committee and that she had accepted the idea proposed by Operation Storm commanders that this jubilee anniversary be marked by a ceremony in Knin and a military march in Zagreb.

President Grabar-Kitarovic believes that a ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm and Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day should be held in Knin in a bid to strengthen national unity. She also suggests that a military march be held in Zagreb next year on Croatian Armed Forces Day, sources from the Office of the President told Hina.

The Croatian president wishes to continue to be a factor of unity and not divisions, and believes that August 5 should be commemorated this year traditionally in Knin, the sources from the Office of the President said.
