Government requests extraordinary parliament session on arbitration case

The government requested an extraordinary parliamentary session to discuss the latest developments regarding the border arbitration agreement between the Croatian and Slovenian governments, and Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic invited the leaders of all parliamentary groups to a meeting

The government held a conference call from which it made a request to the parliament speaker for an extraordinary parliamentary session, the government said in a press release.

The extraordinary session will be held on Wednesday. At the session, the government will propose the adoption of conclusions on the latest developments concerning the arbitration procedure. The conclusions are being drawn up and more is likely to be known on Monday, after a meeting at the government headquarters with the chairs of all parliamentary groups.

The arbitration scandal broke out on Wednesday when a Croatian newspaper published transcripts revealing that a Slovenian arbitrator and a Slovenian diplomat conferred about arguments and the lobbying of other judges on the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague in proceedings on the Slovenian-Croatian border dispute.
