Medved: Cooperation with families of war missing to continue, intensify

War Veterans Minister Tomo Medved said on Wednesday the government would continue as well as intensify its cooperation with the families of the 1,860 persons gone missing in the Homeland War who are still unaccounted for.

He was speaking after a meeting with representatives of families of captured and missing Croatian defenders, which was also attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

Medved said Croatia was still looking for 1,460 missing persons and the remains of 400, adding that additional effort would be made to shed light on their fate, which he said required excellent cooperation between the government, the ministry and their families.

Speaking of a bill on civilian Homeland War victims, he said that after 26 years they would have a law regulating all matters and clearly defining to whom it did not apply - all persons who took part in the military aggression on Croatia, their collaborators and family members.

Speaking on behalf of families of captured and missing defenders, Ljiljana Alvir said they supported the bill and that today's meeting also discussed the harassment of their families via statements by interest groups or political manipulation, notably during recent local elections and other political campaigns.

She called for finding a way to stop the baseless spreading of disinformation, the harassment of those families and obstructions in shedding light on the fate of the war missing.
