Of 1,182 coronavirus cases in Croatia, 26 are children aged up to 10

Of the 1,182 people in Croatia currently infected with the COVID-19 virus, 26 are children aged up to 10 and 33 are between 10 and 20 years old, the director of the Croatian Public Health Institute, Krunoslav Capak, told a press conference in Zagreb on Sunday.

The virus has also been confirmed in 143 people aged above 70 years, and the largest number of infected people are between 50 and 60 years old, Capak said.

He said that a four-month-old baby in the eastern town of Nustar had contracted the virus from its mother. "They are both well, they have no symptoms and their condition is being closely monitored," he added.

Capak said that past experience with small children and pregnant women had shown that pregnancies ended well and children recovered from the disease without symptoms.

Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic said that the security situation in the country had not deteriorated because police were engaged in efforts to curb the spread of the coronavirus outbreak.

Answering questions from the press, he said that the number of corruption-related crimes had increased by 160% compared with the same time last year, but stressed that such crimes were not normally reported to the police but were uncovered through analytical work by the police.

The number of robberies has declined by 12.7%, aggravated thefts have decreased by 19.7% and car thefts are down by 14.4%, the minister said.

Bozinovic said that 18 police officers were infected with the COVID-19 virus, 85 were in self-isolation and 105 had been released from self-isolation.

He said that the police had received 3,866 calls about violations of self-isolation rules and that 1,120 people had been found to have actually breached such rules.
