Plenkovic, Altmaier for intensifying Croatia-Germany economic cooperation
Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic and German Economy and Energy Minister Peter Altmaier said on Monday the political relations between the two countries were excellent and their economic cooperation was increasingly good.
They advocated further growth of investment and the creation of new business opportunities, notably in energy, the auto industry, industry 4.0 and innovations, the government said in a press release.
Germany is Croatia's main foreign trade partner with over €5 billion generated in 2018.
The two officials also talked about the positive economic trends in Croatia, the EU's multiannual financial framework, Brexit, and tourism, given the large number of Germans vacationing in Croatia. They said the Croatian community in Germany contributed to the strengthening of bilateral relations.
Plenkovic said he was pleased that Croatia and Germany would chair the Council of the EU next year, Croatia in the first and Germany in the second half of the year, with aligned presidency programmes for the benefit of the whole EU.
He said Croatia was making good preparations for the presidency, adding that the priorities would be economic growth and balanced development of all member states, transport, energy and digital connectivity, internal and external security, and the EU's global role.
