PM Milanovic attends boat handover ceremony in Turkmenbashi
Croatian Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic and Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow on Friday attended a ceremony at Turkmenbashi's port on the Caspian Sea at which a ferry boat built by the Uljanik shipyard from Pula for the Turkmen state agency for maritime and river navigation was handed over, the local news agency TDH reported.
Turkmen clients signed contracts with Uljanik for the construction of two ferry boats in 2012. The Berkarar, which was handed over today, is the first of the two ferry boats, and the other one, the Bagtyyar, is to be delivered in 2015.
The boat was built respecting the highest environmental standards. It can develop a speed of up to 17.6 knots and its maximum carrying capacity is 2,400 tonnes. It can transport up to 200 passengers and 53 trucks.
The boat is 155.8 metres long, 17.5 metres wide and 12 meters high.
It has four decks, a helicopter deck, a restaurant, shops, a playground, and a medical office.
The Berkarar will operate between Turkmenbashi on the east coast of the Caspian Sea and Baku in Azerbaijan, on its western coast, and the Olya port in the Russian part of the sea and the Anzali and Amirabad ports in Iran.
