PM Sanader, Rehn say European Commission fully supports Croatia on EU path

ZAGREB, Jan 22 (Hina) - The current state of Croatia's accession negotiations with the European Union was the main topic of last night's unannounced talks President Stjepan Mesic and Prime Minister Ivo Sanader held with European Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.

The European Commission fully supports Croatia on the path to the EU, the government said in a statement on Thursday.

During the talks with Sanader, Rehn commended Croatia's considerable progress in meeting EU membership requirements.

The two officials discussed Croatian-Slovene relations, assessing that all open bilateral issues must be resolved in the European spirit and good neighbourliness. Rehn said the European Commission was willing to help in finding appropriate solutions if both sides agreed to that.

Sanader said Croatia was willing to reach a solution in the European spirit and stressed that it would continue preparing for EU membership with a view to completing accession negotiations by the end of the year.
