Prime Minister Kosor, Israeli president discuss promotion of economic cooperation

ZAGREB, July 25 (Hina) - Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor and Israeli President Shimon Peres are agreed that the good political relations between the two countries should be further promoted by establishing closer economic ties.

Croatia regards Israel as a valued friend and will remain committed to promoting its partnership and dialogue with Israel, Kosor said.

The area which needs better cooperation is economy, the PM said, announcing her forthcoming visit to Israel at the invitation of Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.

Croatia is open to Israeli investors, Kosor said, expressing confidence that Israeli investments in Croatia would increase.

She said that agriculture was yet another area where the two countries could cooperate, adding that Croatia would appreciate very much Israel's experience in irrigation.

The two officials also discussed cooperation in science, culture and high technology.

Kosor underlined the importance of the national tourism sector, inviting Israeli tourists to visit Croatia.

Peres said that Israeli business people were very much interested in making investments in Croatia. He said that the future depended on investment in science and informed Kosor of investments that were being developed in Israel in that field, inviting Croatia to join in those projects.

The Israeli president said that he was impressed by what he had seen in Croatia and by the potential for the development of bilateral relations.

Kosor said that Croatia was fully committed to policies which condemn the Holocaust in the strongest terms and that it was working on the education of new generations to prevent such a tragedy from ever happening again.

President Peres expressed gratitude for what the Croatian government was doing in that regard.

The meeting with PM Kosor marked the end of the Israeli president's visit to Croatia, which started on Friday when he met President Ivo Josipovic.

During his stay in Croatia, Peres also met the former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.

A brief statement released by Mesic's office on Sunday said it was an informal meeting of two friends who had met on many occasions during Mesic's term in office.

Peres told Mesic that he was pleased to be visiting Croatia and to be able to get to know the country and its people.
