MEETINGS WITH EUROPEAN LEADERS
Strengthening European unity and renewing transatlantic relations
Prime Minister Andrej Plenković met yesterday and today at Banski Dvori with the heads of governments, states and European institutions, who are staying in Zagreb as part of a meeting of the leaders of the European People's Party.

During the conversation with the President of the European Commission, Plenković emphasized the importance of expanding the capacity of the LNG terminal on Krk and the JANAF oil pipeline in the context of energy security and creating alternative supply routes, instead of buying energy from Russia.
Support for Ukraine and EU enlargement policy
They also advocated for further support for Ukraine, which is defending its freedom, but also the security and democratic values of the entire Europe.
"We support the achievement of peace as soon as possible, which should be based on just and sustainable foundations, while protecting the sovereignty of Ukraine and international law," the Prime Minister said.
In terms of strengthening the global role of the EU and the stability of Croatia's neighborhood, Plenković and von der Leyen also discussed enlargement policy.
"Croatia will continue to strongly support the European path of Ukraine and Moldova, as well as the countries of Southeast Europe, especially our neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which Croats are one of the three constituent peoples," said Plenković.
EU-US cooperation of exceptional importance
After meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, the Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation with that institution, as well as with the common positions on numerous important issues for Croatia and the European Union.
At the meeting in Banski Dvori, they advocated for further support for Ukraine and the stabilization of the situation in the Middle East, and discussed the situation in Southeast Europe and the further enlargement process.
In the context of transatlantic relations, Plenković and Metsola emphasized the dialogue, trust and close cooperation between the EU and the US as of exceptional importance in the circumstances of global threats and security challenges.
Partnership between Croatia and Poland
Prime Minister Plenković also hosted Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Zagreb, emphasizing on that occasion that Croatia and Poland cherish traditionally close and partnership relations within the EU and NATO, as well as through the Three Seas Initiative, which Croatia currently chairs.
"We want to create the preconditions for further strengthening economic exchange, which continued to grow in 2025," the Prime Minister wrote on X.
At the meeting, Plenković and Tusk also discussed the situation in the neighborhood, transatlantic relations and peace initiatives related to Ukraine, as well as strengthening European defense and security.
Excellent cooperation between Croatia and Greece
After meeting with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Plenković emphasized the excellent political relations between the two countries at the bilateral and European levels.
"As Mediterranean countries, we are particularly looking forward to continuing our partnership within the framework of the EU MED-9 and Three Seas Initiatives, which Croatia chairs this year," he said.
Further strengthening of Croatian-German relations, especially defense cooperation
He met with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who is on his first visit to Croatia.
Croatia and Germany have traditionally fostered friendly and close relations within the framework of the European Union, NATO and other international organizations, it was emphasized on that occasion.
Trade in goods in the first ten months of 2025 amounted to 8.2 billion euros, and we continue to strengthen defense cooperation, especially in the context of the recently signed contract for the delivery of 44 Leopard 2A8 tanks.
"We also discussed the future of the European Union enlargement process and providing a European perspective to the countries of Southeast Europe - an area that the European Union must not neglect or expose to the influence of other global actors," said Prime Minister Plenković in a post on the X platform after the meeting.
They also touched on the issues of border protection and the prevention of illegal migration, in which the Croatian and German police cooperate well.
Excellent relations between Croatia and Ireland confirmed
With the Irish Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simon Harris, he confirmed the excellent political relations between Croatia and Ireland.
The growth of Irish investments in Croatia, especially in the technology sector and startups, confirms the further potential of cooperation between Croatia and Ireland.
They discussed the Irish presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026, transatlantic relations, as well as the EU enlargement policy.
Drone Coalition and the Three Seas Initiative
Croatia and Latvia have complementary positions on a number of European issues, and we are also building excellent relations within the framework of the Three Seas Initiative, which Croatia currently chairs, it was emphasized at a meeting with Latvian Prime Minister Evika Siliņa.
"Together with Latvia and the Netherlands, we are leading the Drone Coalition as part of activities to strengthen European defense," said Prime Minister Plenković.
Close cooperation continues in the framework of negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework, in particular with regard to maintaining adequate allocations for cohesion policy and agriculture.
They also emphasize the issue of demographic revitalization, which is of strategic importance for Europe.
